Know the station before practising

The Sled Push is station 2, after the SkiErg and the second designated run. Six stations follow it. Under the 26/27 Singles rules, push 50 metres as four lengths of 12.5 metres. Total loads including the sled are 102 kg for Women Open, 152 kg for Men Open and Women Pro, and 202 kg for Men Pro. The entire sled must cross the line before you change ends. Treat each length and change of direction as part of the task.

Choose a controllable position

The following are coaching suggestions, not a proven universal technique prescription. Start with a load you can control. Set your hands securely on the poles, choose an arm position that lets you maintain control, and take steps you can repeat. Keep awareness of the lane and judge. If your movement becomes difficult to control, stop and reassess the load or position during training. There is no established HYROX®-wide optimum of 45 degrees or 80–100 steps per minute in the cited research. A bent elbow alone does not diagnose faulty technique.

Practise one length at a time

As an optional practice sequence, first rehearse a short push with suitable equipment and a manageable load, then practise crossing the line fully and changing ends. Only add further lengths when you can repeat the movement under control. This is a coaching progression, not a validated number of sets or weeks. Do not substitute an improvised loaded cart or an unsecured barbell for equipment intended for pushing. Research on resisted sprinting or heavy strongman towing does not establish that a wall lean or a band walk reproduces this station.

Compare like with like

Record the sled, added weight, surface, distance, pauses and timing method. Change one practice variable at a time if you want a useful personal comparison. A faster split does not by itself identify which technical change caused it. The cited studies do not establish a guaranteed 15–30-second improvement in four to six weeks, nor that a slower final length is necessarily a technique fault. Different division loads also do not establish equal relative effort or identical heart-rate responses.

FAQ

What weights apply in HYROX® Singles?

For 26/27: Women Open 102 kg, Men Open and Women Pro 152 kg, Men Pro 202 kg, including the sled. The station is four lengths of 12.5 metres.

HYROX® Singles 26/27 · §1 / 4.1 / 8.2

Must I hold a 45-degree body angle?

No universal optimum of 45 degrees is established by the cited research. Treat positioning as an individual coaching decision and practise with a controllable load.

Should my arms always be locked?

The cited evidence does not establish locked arms as the only effective method. Choose a secure position; bending an elbow is not by itself proof that your body angle is wrong.

Is the same weight equally difficult on every surface?

No. Sled resistance depends on the surface and setup, so kilograms alone do not make training conditions equivalent. Compare sessions using the same equipment and conditions where possible.

How quickly will technique practice improve my time?

These sources do not establish a guaranteed time gain or deadline. Track comparable sessions and account for load, surface, fatigue and pauses before interpreting a change.
