A bodyweight isolation exercise used in HYROX training.

The bodyweight calf raise builds calf endurance and Achilles tendon resilience, essential for HYROX athletes covering 8 km of running across the race.

Movement

A bodyweight calf raise lifts the heel while the forefoot remains supported. Knee position, foot support, range, tempo, balance assistance and whether one or two legs are used change the ankle and calf demands; no single calf muscle is isolated.

Programming

Use stable support and a controllable pain-free range. Foot angle and depth are not universal, and dropping below a step is optional. Progress dose from capacity and goal. The exercise does not guarantee Achilles safety, calf growth, injury prevention, running economy or HYROX® performance.
