Increasing carbohydrate intake in the 24-48 hours before a HYROX race to maximize glycogen stores and sustain energy across all 16 segments.

Carb loading is the deliberate increase of carbohydrate intake 24–48 hours before a HYROX race to maximize muscle glycogen stores. This fueling strategy sustains energy across all eight runs and eight functional stations.

Definition

Carbohydrate loading is a planned increase in carbohydrate availability before selected prolonged endurance events. Need, amount and timing depend on event demands, athlete size, usual diet and gastrointestinal tolerance; it is not required before every workout or race.

Application

Practice any strategy in training and keep total energy, fluids and familiar foods in context. Temporary body-mass change can reflect stored glycogen and associated water. A loading protocol does not guarantee performance and may be unnecessary for shorter events.

FAQ

Is there one correct technique or dose?

No. It depends on the task, goal, equipment and individual response.

IAAF nutrition consensus

Does one measurement prove an outcome?

No. Acute or field measures require context and do not establish long-term adaptation.

IAAF nutrition consensus

Does it guarantee HYROX® performance?

No. Exercise relevance does not guarantee individual race transfer.
