Dumbbell Box Step Up

A dumbbell box step-up is a loaded unilateral exercise in which the athlete steps onto a stable platform while holding dumbbells, then returns under control.
Movement and variation
Place the whole working foot on a stable box, use a height that permits control and step up without needing a jump. Box height, forward or lateral direction, trunk position and dumbbell load change hip, knee and ankle demands. Biomechanical work differs between forward and lateral step-ups; no version universally isolates the glutes.

Programming and HYROX®
Start with bodyweight or a manageable load and progress according to range, balance and target. There is no universal knee angle, box height or dumbbell percentage. Step-ups can train unilateral lower-body strength, but strength gains are task-specific. They do not reproduce the competition Sandbag Lunge or Sled Push and cannot guarantee balance correction, injury prevention or faster stations.

FAQ
What box height should I use?
Use a stable height that allows the full foot and controlled ascent and descent.
Does it replace Sandbag Lunges?
No. It can supplement strength training but is a different task and implement.
Program your single-leg training and track lunge station performance with Repz.
