EMOM

EMOM (Every Minute On the Minute) is a training format where prescribed repetitions are performed at the start of each minute, with remaining time as rest. EMOMs enforce consistent pacing, develop repeated-effort capacity, and mirror HYROX's rhythm of working and recovering across multiple stations.
Definition
EMOM means “every minute on the minute”: a planned task starts at each minute boundary. Any time left in that minute can be recovery, but only if the task finishes before the next boundary. Exercise, repetitions, load and total minutes determine the session; EMOM does not itself mean high intensity.

Evidence and programming
A small volume-matched study found different acute responses between one EMOM and one rounds-for-time protocol, but it cannot establish universal superiority or long-term effects. Choose work that can be performed with stable technique and adjust repetitions, load or duration when recovery disappears.

FAQ
Is there one correct technique or dose?
No. It depends on the task, goal, equipment and individual response.

Does one measurement prove an outcome?
No. Acute or field measures require context and do not establish long-term adaptation.

Does it guarantee HYROX® performance?
No. Exercise relevance does not guarantee individual race transfer.
