Lat Pulldown

The lat pulldown is a cable-based pull exercise targeting the latissimus dorsi. It builds the vertical pulling strength that supports HYROX Sled Pull hand-over-hand mechanics and SkiErg power output.
Movement and evidence
A lat pulldown pulls a cable bar or handles toward the upper trunk while seated. Grip, bar path, torso position and equipment alter the movement. A 2026 EMG review found inconsistent grip-width effects and stressed that acute EMG amplitude does not establish long-term growth or a definitive prescription.

Programming
Use a grip and front-of-body path that permit controlled shoulder and elbow motion without pain. Load and repetitions should match the goal and experience. The exercise does not isolate the latissimus, automatically fix posture, equal a pull-up at a set ratio, prevent injury or guarantee HYROX® transfer.
