Seated Back Extension

The seated back extension is a machine-based exercise that isolates the erector spinae through controlled trunk extension, building the lumbar endurance HYROX athletes need for maintaining upright posture during prolonged running and loaded station work.
Movement and scope
A seated back-extension machine provides resisted trunk or lumbar extension. Machine design and pelvic restraint affect how specifically the lumbar extensors are loaded. Findings from isolated machines do not automatically apply to every device or pain condition.

Use and limits
Adjust the machine to its instructions, use a tolerable range and control both directions. Healthy adults improved strength with lighter and heavier loads in one small trial. This does not prove a required load, injury prevention or a diagnosis; persistent or worsening pain needs qualified assessment.
