Trap Bar Deadlift

The trap bar deadlift is a compound pulling exercise using a hexagonal barbell that builds full-body strength with 20-30% less lumbar stress than conventional deadlifts, directly transferring to HYROX sled pull, sled push, and farmers carry stations.
Movement and equipment
A trap-bar deadlift is a loaded lift performed while standing inside a hexagonal or open trap bar. Handle height, bar design, stance and technique change joint positions and range. Set the load securely and use a controllable hip-and-knee extension pattern suited to the equipment and athlete.

Comparison and limits
Studies report biomechanical and muscle-activation differences between trap-bar and straight-bar variants, but findings depend on protocol and do not establish one as universally safer or superior. Choose the variation for the goal, access and tolerance, and progress load individually. It does not guarantee transfer to sleds, carries or HYROX®, and high handles are an option rather than a mandatory progression.
