Current Mixed Doubles format

Doubles partners share station work but both must run together and enter and leave stations together. Mixed Doubles consists of one woman and one man and uses the current prescribed Mixed loads, including sex-specific Wall Ball target heights. Communication should prevent separation, obstruction and an illegal changeover. There is no official required vocabulary or proven universal call system.

Running together

Agree who sets a manageable running pace and how to signal “slower,” “together” or a problem. The faster partner cannot gain a meaningful lead into or out of the station. Use the event briefing and officials when course flow is unclear.

Station changeovers differ

Changeover rules are station-specific. SkiErg and Row handles are not passed; carry and sandbag transfers cannot advance the implement; Burpee Broad Jump hand placement follows the prior partner’s landed toes; a flying Wall Ball switch is prohibited. The resting partner remains standing in the marked zone.

Use short agreed cues

Choose brief words both partners can recognize under noise and fatigue, such as a countdown, “switch,” “stay,” or “stop.” Practise them, but do not let a private cue override a judge or movement standard. Avoid complex sentences during hard work.

Plan and adapt

Set an initial work-sharing plan based on demonstrated capacity, then allow legal changes if fatigue or technique differs on race day. An exact 50/50 split is not required. Review each station’s allowed switch before the event rather than applying one method everywhere.
