The Concept2 SkiErg is an air-resistance ski ergometer used for the standard HYROX 1,000 m SkiErg station, first after the opening run.

Concept2 supplies HYROX® with SkiErgs. The standard race begins with run one and then 1,000 m on the SkiErg; sled push is station two. Supplier; Singles §1/8.1.

Equipment and installation

Current specifications list the normal floor-stand setup as 60 × 127 × 216 cm. The machine weighs 18.6 kg and the normal stand 16 kg. Wall mounting and a separate wide stand are also available. Manufacturer specifications.

Check the correct installation instructions, usable space and local price for the configuration you want. Do not infer unlimited user-height compatibility or a suitable mounting wall from the machine dimensions alone.

Singles race rules

Singles 2026/27 §8.1 sets the distance at 1,000 m. The judge resets the monitor. The damper starts at 6 and the racer may adjust it.

Foot contact must be on the base, not the surrounding floor. A dynamic or jumping motion is allowed if the feet land back on the base. After completing the distance, stay with both feet on the platform, raise an arm and wait for judge confirmation before leaving.

Technique and pace

Concept2 describes double-pole skiing as a coordinated upper-body, trunk and lower-body movement. Start with bent arms and slightly bent knees; initiate through the trunk, hinge at the hips and bring the handles alongside the thighs. The arms participate in finishing the pull. Technique.

The damper changes airflow rather than setting a fixed exercise intensity. The PM5 skiing split is time per 500 m: constant 2:10/500 m gives 4:20 over 1,000 m, excluding transitions. This is not a performance benchmark. Damper; PM5.

As an optional drill, practise easy coordinated pulls before longer efforts. Choose workload and rest for your current preparation. Discuss substitutions with your coach if a SkiErg is unavailable; do not treat bands, cable pulls, slams or pullovers as proven equivalents or guaranteed ways to improve your race split.

FAQ

What muscles does the SkiErg use?

The standing double-pole technique involves upper body, trunk and lower body. It is not an arms-only exercise, and this description does not rank it against every other HYROX® station.

Should I use wall mounting or a floor stand?

Choose according to the manufacturer’s installation requirements and your available space. Check the selected stand dimensions and whether wall installation is suitable for your premises.

Is SkiErg the second HYROX® station?

No. It is the first station, after run one. Sled push follows run two.
