Done on a downward-sloped bench, this dumbbell press biases the lower chest and is often more comfortable for the shoulders than flat pressing.

The dumbbell decline bench press targets the lower chest and triceps on a decline bench, building horizontal pressing strength for HYROX sled pushes.

Movement and loading

This is a horizontal press performed with dumbbells on a bench set below horizontal. The shoulder and elbow move while the pectoralis major, anterior deltoid and triceps contribute. Bench angle, grip, range, load and individual anatomy affect the demand; the exercise does not isolate a separate “lower chest”.

Use and limits

Secure the bench, choose a controllable range and keep each dumbbell balanced. Load, repetitions and tempo should match the goal and current capacity. No single angle or elbow position fits everyone, and this variation does not guarantee safer shoulders or direct HYROX® performance.
