Erector Spinae

The muscles running along both sides of the spine responsible for spinal extension and postural support. They hold you upright during 200m of Farmers Carry, generate hip hinge power for Sled Pull, and maintain running form as fatigue accumulates.
Anatomy
The erector spinae are paired intrinsic back-muscle columns that include iliocostalis, longissimus and spinalis. They contribute to spinal extension, lateral bending and postural control with many other muscles.
Training limits
No exercise isolates the entire group, and strength or activation does not diagnose the cause of posture or back pain. Exercise selection and dose depend on the task and tolerance. Training the group does not guarantee pain relief, spinal protection, injury prevention or HYROX® performance.
FAQ
Is there one correct load or dose?
No. Select it from the goal, equipment, experience and response.
Does it guarantee HYROX® performance?
No. Training relevance does not establish individual race transfer.
What if it hurts?
Stop for sharp, persistent or worsening pain and seek qualified assessment.
Deadlifts build essential strength but should be supplemented with endurance-focused exercises like back extensions, farmers carries, and bird-dogs. HYROX® demands sustained erector spinae engagement over 60-90 minutes. Repz performance tracking can reveal if late-race posture breakdown is costing you time.
