HYROX Adaptive

HYROX Adaptive uses 13 classifications with division-specific running or pushing distances, station standards, loads and permitted equipment under the 2026/27 rulebook.
Definition and eligibility
HYROX® Adaptive is the individual race format for eligible athletes with permanent impairments. The 2026/27 rulebook requires official classification; temporary injuries, including recovery after knee or hip surgery, do not qualify. Athletes who need adaptations outside the prescribed division standards may be allowed to participate Out of Competition, which removes them from official rankings and qualification spots.

Classification and race format
The rulebook defines 13 divisions: Lower Limb Major/Minor, Upper Limb Major/Minor, Short Stature, Vision Impairment, D/deaf or Hard of Hearing, Neurological Major/Moderate/Minor, and three seated divisions based on hip and core function. The race keeps the sequence of eight run or push segments and eight stations, but distances, repetitions, loads, target heights and permitted adaptations vary by division. It is therefore incorrect to assume that every athlete completes identical 1 km segments or receives an individually chosen modification.

Equipment and assistance
Specialised equipment must be declared during registration and must comply with the rulebook. A vision-impaired racer may use a Guide Runner for navigation. Guides, handlers and support persons do not enter the rankings and may not perform workout stations for the racer. Approved adaptations and lane or equipment assignments are controlled by the judging team; athletes should use the current event information and contact HYROX® when classification or equipment eligibility is unclear.
