Recovery evidence

Cold-water immersion can change soreness, perceived recovery and some performance measures after strenuous exercise, but effects depend on exercise type and protocol. It does not literally flush toxins, and lower soreness does not prove faster tissue repair. Results from one temperature or athlete group cannot be treated as a universal dose.

Trade-offs and safety

Frequent immersion immediately after resistance training may attenuate some hypertrophy adaptations compared with resistance training alone, so recovery goals and adaptation goals can conflict. Cold exposure also creates an acute cardiovascular and thermal stress. Avoid unsupervised use where medical conditions, impaired sensation, open wounds, illness or environmental risk make it unsuitable; it is not required for HYROX® recovery or injury prevention.
