Soleus

The soleus is a calf muscle lying mainly beneath gastrocnemius and joining the calcaneal tendon.
Definition
It contributes to plantar flexion and postural control. Knee position changes the relative mechanical contribution of calf muscles but does not completely isolate the soleus.

Evidence and use
Calling it an endurance muscle is a simplification; fibre composition and function vary. Soleus training does not by itself guarantee faster running, injury prevention or HYROX® performance.

Bend your knee to at least 90 degrees during calf exercises. Seated calf raises, wall sit calf raises, and bent-knee calf raises all preferentially target the soleus. Repz run split data can reveal if late-race pace decline correlates with calf fatigue patterns.
