Compare the named formats

“HYROX® versus DEKA” is not one comparison unless the DEKA format is named. DEKA currently lists STRONG, MILE, FIT, Ultra and ATLAS. This page compares HYROX® Singles mainly with DEKA FIT; claims about another DEKA product should use that product’s current rules.

Current HYROX® Singles

Current HYROX® Singles alternates eight designated runs of about 1 km with eight prescribed workout stations. The current rulebook defines order, distance, division loads, movement standards and penalties. The format is standardized for comparison, but “unchanged” should not mean rules and loads can never be revised between seasons.

Current DEKA formats

DEKA’s official catalogue describes FIT as ten fitness zones, each preceded by 500 m of running, totaling 5 km. STRONG has ten zones and no running; MILE has ten zones and one mile of running in total. Ultra and ATLAS are separate formats. Use the current DEKA rules for zone movements, categories and penalties rather than an old comparison table.

Do not infer physiology from distance

HYROX® uses longer individual run segments and DEKA FIT uses more, shorter segments. That fact alone does not prove which event is harder, more aerobic, better for a body type or produces a specific fatigue profile. Station content, pace, skill, division, course and the athlete all affect demand. Finish times from the two products are not interchangeable benchmarks.

Choose from logistics and preference

Check actual event availability, division, price, travel, equipment access and the movement standards you want to practise. Prices and calendars are local and mutable. Choose HYROX®, DEKA FIT or both from the experience and constraints you prefer; no authoritative source ranks one as universally better for runners, strength athletes, beginners or advanced competitors.
