HYROX wall balls for women: rules and training
Women Open do 100 wall balls with 4 kg; Women Pro use 6 kg. Both target 2.70 m. Learn legal repetitions and adaptable practice for 2026/27.

Women Open and Women Pro both complete 100 wall balls at HYROX® Singles in 2026/27. Open uses a 4 kg ball and Pro a 6 kg ball; both use a 2.70 m target. The station follows run eight and leads to the finish.
Start with the correct standard
The official women's target is 2.70 m. Do not replace it with 2.75 m or a rounded nine-foot gym marker: those are different heights. Confirm the ball weight and target before beginning, especially if you normally train with different equipment.
The rulebook requires contact with the designated physical target, not simply a throw above an imaginary line. Read section 8.8 and inspect the target setup at your event. A gym repetition counts as race-standard practice only if it also meets the competition movement requirements.
What makes a repetition count?
Start standing tall, hips and knees extended, with the ball in both hands. Complete a squat with your hips lower than your knees, then throw with both hands so the ball strikes the correct target.
After target contact, you may catch the ball and continue. You may also let it fall to the ground. If it does, reset to a tall standing position before the next squat; catching a bounce and continuing directly is not permitted. Putting the ball down is therefore not automatically an error.
A repetition that breaks the movement or target requirements does not count. Digital displays can help show progress, but the physical target and judge confirmation remain the official standard. Check that the station is complete before leaving for the finish.
Build a repeatable movement
Begin practice while fresh so you can check squat depth and target contact. Film a short set from the side or ask a coach to observe it. A video can help identify an obvious shallow squat; it does not replace the race judge.
Try coordinating the rise from the squat with the throw, then choose a position from which you can receive the ball under control. Your height, equipment and movement pattern affect that position, so a fixed distance from the wall is not a rule for everyone.
Use a breathing rhythm that you can sustain. Exhaling with the throw is one cue to test, not a requirement or a guaranteed solution.
Choose sets from practice, not a gender benchmark
Four sets of 25 or five sets of 20 each total 100 repetitions. These are examples, not rankings of ability or promises of a faster station. Smaller sets are also an option. Record valid repetitions, breaks and missed targets to see whether your chosen approach remains manageable.
A set plan should be adjustable. If depth or target accuracy deteriorates, pause and resume with a smaller set instead of insisting on an unbroken attempt. Count completed repetitions, including any no-reps that need replacing; a planned total does not guarantee a valid total.
Three adjustable practice options
- Technique practice: after your usual warm-up, try three sets of eight controlled repetitions, resting enough to repeat them cleanly. Reduce the load or volume if needed; return to division equipment when practising the race standard.
- Volume practice: try four sets of ten, with a break between sets. Build from what you already tolerate rather than adding this on top of an already demanding week.
- Practice after running: once the movement is consistent, try a short controlled run followed by a small wall-ball set. Compare the execution with your fresh practice. This is a partial drill, not a full simulation of station eight.
These are alternatives to adapt to your experience and total training, not a mandatory weekly schedule. Keep fresh technique work as well as selected practice after prior exercise. No fixed block guarantees that every athlete will be race-ready.

Questions
Do women complete 75 or 100 wall balls?
The 2026/27 standard Singles requirement is 100 for Women Open and Women Pro. Open uses 4 kg; Pro uses 6 kg.
Must I do all 100 without a break?
No. The movement rules allow the ball to go to the ground, followed by a proper standing reset. Choose a set structure you have practised.
Should every wall-ball session be done under fatigue?
No. Fresh practice lets you focus on execution. Selected work after running can then test that execution in a different context; neither needs to replace the other.
