HYROX overall time: what your final result includes

The clock covers the whole race
A standard Singles race includes eight running segments and eight stations. Time spent navigating the Roxzone, setting up and resting still contributes to the race total. Finishing a station does not stop the overall clock.
The timing chip must be worn on an ankle throughout the race. It is not a chip built into the bib. Start in your assigned wave and follow the start instructions; do not assume that delaying your movement through the start tunnel gives you a legal timing advantage.
In Doubles, both partners run together and share station work. The team finishes when both have crossed the line, and the later chip read determines its official finish time.
Reconciling totals and splits
Split times describe sections of the performance. Before adding them, distinguish segment durations from cumulative timestamps and separate transition fields from values that already include that time. Count each interval once.
If your sum differs from the official result, check for penalties, missing readings, rounding and the timing report's definitions. Do not automatically label the entire difference “transition time.” The published official result remains the reference; a hand calculation is a check, not a replacement.
For a purely illustrative calculation, 40 minutes of running, 30 minutes of stations and 5 minutes of non-overlapping transitions total 75 minutes. If a separate two-minute penalty is then added, the result is 77 minutes. These are arithmetic examples, not expected race times.
Interpreting progress
Compare the same format and division, and note changes in standards, course layout and conditions. A faster total can come from different combinations of sections. Use your own breakdown to choose what to practise instead of assuming that running always occupies a fixed percentage.
Officials can amend results and penalties for up to 48 hours after the event. Check the updated result before recording a final personal best or drawing a qualification conclusion.
FAQ
Does transition time count?
Yes. Movement and pauses between running and stations remain part of the race time.
Do all sixteen run and station splits always sum to the result?
Do not assume so. Check separate transition fields, penalties and the report's measurement boundaries before adding values.
Is there one good first-race time?
No single target fits every athlete and division. Base your target on your preparation and the requirements of your chosen category.
