HYROX penalty loop: what the rules actually require

The 2026/27 HYROX Singles rulebook does not prescribe a standard 100–200 m penalty loop for station mistakes. It distinguishes invalid repetitions, specific time penalties and disqualification according to the infringement.

A no-rep is not an extra running lap

At wall balls, a repetition that fails the movement or target standard does not count. Complete the required 100 valid repetitions; running an extra loop does not replace them. No warning is required before a wall ball no-rep.

Other stations have their own penalty protocols. For example, the SkiErg protocol starts with a warning for the specified platform infringement, then adds 15 seconds for a second and each subsequent infringement. Do not apply one station's warning or penalty to every other situation.

Examples of the actual Singles penalties

Infringement Rulebook consequence
One station completed out of order Three-minute penalty; more than one leads to disqualification
Entering or leaving the Roxzone through the wrong IN/OUT arch Two minutes per infringement
Incorrect kettlebell return at farmers carry 30 seconds unless corrected before exiting the Roxzone
Missing an entire station or a 1 km run Disqualification

These are selected examples, not the full penalty schedule. For an incomplete station, the rulebook is inconsistent: section 12.1.3 and the penalty table specify disqualification, while section 12.3 allows continuation without a final time. Ask the Race Director how this applies; this page cannot resolve the contradiction. Section 12 allows missed stations to be completed before entering wall balls, with the applicable out-of-order penalty. Do not treat a later correction as permission to omit required work.

Missing a running lap is a separate case

For a missed individual lap, the penalty table lists three minutes in a four-lap setup, five in a three-lap setup and seven in a two-lap setup. Missing the run in a one-lap setup leads to disqualification. Check your venue's lap plan instead of assuming that every missed lap receives the same penalty.

These added times are not predictions of how long an extra run would take. The earlier claim that a HYROX® penalty loop typically costs 30–60 seconds is not supported by this rulebook.

What to do at the race

Follow the judge's directions, complete the required distance or valid repetitions and ask for clarification if you are unsure where to go. Only Race Directors can disqualify a racer, using information from the judging team or their own observations. The Lead Race Director's decisions are final under section 7.3; this page does not promise an appeal outcome.

For Doubles, Relay or Adaptive, consult the applicable separate rulebook. Do not assume one partner must run a solo penalty loop. See HYROX® rules and wall ball rules.

Questions

Is a HYROX® penalty loop 100–200 m?

That is not the standard system prescribed by the 2026/27 Singles rulebook. Check the specific no-rep, time-penalty or disqualification rule instead.

Can I replace missing wall balls with extra running?

No. You must complete 100 valid wall balls in standard Singles; an extra run does not replace the station work.

Does every error receive a warning first?

No. Wall balls have reps or no-reps without warnings, and some other infringements carry immediate penalties or disqualification.
