HYROX has 8,000 m of designated running divided into eight approximately 1,000 m segments. A segment can require multiple laps. One circuit of the venue is therefore not automatically one kilometre.

Count segments and laps separately

Run one segment before each of the eight stations. The event layout determines how many laps make up that segment; first or final laps within a segment may differ in length. Read the current venue instructions and count your own laps.

For example, a four-lap layout means that completing one circuit does not complete the whole running segment. This is an illustration, not a claim that every venue has four laps. Do not use a previous race's lap count without checking the new map.

Which lane should you use?

The 2026/27 rules describe an inner, smaller Fast Lane and a larger outer Running Lane. Racers moving at 4:00 min/km or faster must use the Fast Lane; others should remain in the Running Lane. If crew direct Fast Lane traffic, comply with their instructions.

Avoid obstructing others and follow the marked course. The rulebook does not establish one universal lane width, floor covering or turn count for every event. Use the route you are given, including its approaches to the Roxzone.

Equipment and missing laps

Headphones are prohibited under section 10.2; the running course is not an exception. Keep your issued timing chip on an ankle throughout the race.

Missing a running lap carries the applicable venue-dependent time penalty under section 12; missing an entire 1 km running segment leads to disqualification. These are different infringements. If you are unsure where to go, ask race crew rather than assuming that a timing screen replaces your responsibility to complete the course.

For preparation, practise counting laps on a known route and distinguishing lap count from station number. This is a practical rehearsal, not a promise of faster splits. See station order.

Questions

Is every lap exactly 1 km?

No. The designated total is 8,000 m; the eight running segments may each contain multiple venue laps.

Who uses the Fast Lane?

Racers at 4:00 min/km or faster, subject to crew directions. Other racers should use the outer Running Lane.

Can I wear headphones for the runs only?

No. Headphones are on the prohibited-items list for the race.
