HYROX transition area: moving between run and station

A transition area connects running with station work in HYROX. The Roxzone contains this movement through the competition layout. These passages count as race activity; they are not separate rest periods outside your overall time.

Follow the actual race sequence

Complete the running segment and required laps, enter the Roxzone correctly and follow the marked approach to the next station. Use the equipment or lane assigned by race crew. After completing the station, take the exit route back towards the next run. Wall balls are followed by the finish, not a ninth running segment.

This explains why a generic claim of sixteen identical transition corridors is misleading. Entrances, exits and the finish route depend on the layout. The rules do not give every transition a universal 20–100 m length. Read the event map rather than assigning that range to your venue.

Prepare decisions, not shortcuts

Before race day, check the station order. At the venue, identify IN/OUT arches and the route to each station from the permitted viewing areas. Entering the course early can trigger the timing chip; a map review is not permission to walk the live course.

As optional practice, place a short, clearly marked route between a run and an exercise. Rehearse recognising the next task and approaching equipment without cutting corners. Record this as a training drill with its actual distances, not an exact replica of a particular venue.

Timing and Doubles

Transition movement belongs to the race. For analysis, use the labels and recorded points in your official results; do not assume every visible pause is assigned to the same split field. A faster recorded transition is not automatically evidence of greater fitness or a comparable venue route.

Doubles partners run together, enter and leave each station together, and share its work under that station's rules. This is different from a relay exchange zone. See Doubles rules.

Questions

Does the clock stop while I move to a station?

No. Moving through the competition route is part of the race, not an untimed break.

How much time will better transitions save?

There is no guaranteed saving. Review your own route, decisions and recorded times rather than assuming two to five minutes.

Can I use the closest arch regardless of its label?

No. Roxzone IN/OUT violations incur a two-minute penalty per infringement under the standard 2026/27 rules.
