HYROX race: what to expect on event day

Before your start
Read your event instructions for arrival, access and your assigned start time. At check-in, bring government-issued photo ID and your registration confirmation. You receive the timing chip and identification materials. Attach the chip to an ankle throughout the race and wear the division wristband visibly.
The rulebook provides for changing rooms, bag drop and an athlete warm-up area. Plan enough time to use them without rushing. It requires athletes to assemble at the start tunnel ten minutes before their start for instructions. That is not a recommendation to arrive at the venue only ten minutes early.
Following the course
The designated running distance totals 8,000 m in eight segments of approximately 1,000 m. Venue layouts can divide a segment into several laps; eight segments do not necessarily mean eight laps. Read the course information and count the required laps yourself.
Each run leads to the next station: SkiErg, sled push, sled pull, burpee broad jumps, rowing, farmers carry, sandbag lunges and wall balls. Follow the marked entrances and exits through the Roxzone. Finish after the wall balls; there is no ninth running segment. See the full station order.
Use the assigned equipment and your division's loads. Judges assess repetitions and movement standards. A missed lap, an incomplete station and an invalid repetition are different infringements with different consequences; not every mistake automatically means disqualification.
Kit and practical preparation
Test your footwear during running and station practice. The rules require closed-toe shoes during the race, with an exception allowing shoes to be removed at the Wall Ball station. They do not prescribe a particular running- or training-shoe model. Check permitted accessories before packing: only event-supplied chalk may be used, at the designated stations. Carry any personal race nutrition from the start; spectators cannot hand you supplies during the race.
After finishing, use the official results to review your total and recorded splits. Corrections and penalties may be added for up to 48 hours after the event. A standardized format supports comparison, but different layouts and conditions still matter when interpreting a personal best.
FAQ
How long does a HYROX® race take?
Your time depends on your division, running, stations and transitions. Use your own preparation to set a target and allow for transitions as well as the work itself.
Can I enter several races in one season?
You can register for different events subject to their entry conditions and availability. Leave recovery time appropriate to your own circumstances.
Do I need to bring my own chalk?
No. The 2026/27 rules allow only event-supplied chalk at the stations where it is provided.
