Wall balls are the eighth and final HYROX station, after the eighth run. In the standard 2026/27 Singles divisions, every athlete completes 100 valid repetitions; ball weight and target height depend on the division.

Competition standards for 2026/27

Singles division Ball Target Valid repetitions
Women Open 4 kg 2.70 m 100
Women Pro 6 kg 2.70 m 100
Men Open 6 kg 3.00 m 100
Men Pro 9 kg 3.00 m 100

These are standard Singles requirements. The ball weights are not interchangeable: Women Open uses 4 kg, while Women Pro and Men Open use 6 kg. Check the separate rulebook for other race formats and any approved adaptations.

What makes a repetition valid?

A repetition combines a squat and a throw to the designated physical target. Your hips must descend below your knees in the squat. A shallow squat or an incorrect target contact can result in a no-rep. Digital displays can assist with counting, but do not replace the movement standard and judging.

Follow the judge's completion instructions before proceeding to the finish. There is no ninth running segment after wall balls. See the full race distances and finish-line explanation.

Practise repeatable sets

Choose a ball you can control while learning the movement. Practise squat depth and accurate throws before adding fatigue. Short sets with sufficient rest are a useful starting option; the appropriate load and total volume depend on your experience and recovery.

For a pacing rehearsal, 10 sets of 10 valid repetitions is one possible way to divide 100. It is an example, not an official requirement or an optimal strategy for everyone. Note when your accuracy or depth deteriorates and adjust the next rehearsal. There is no requirement to complete the station unbroken.

Do not treat an arbitrary target time or promised time saving as a qualification standard. Compare your own rehearsals under similar conditions, including rest and invalid repetitions. Squat-to-press alternatives can be useful practice options, but they do not rehearse the actual target contact; allow time with the competition movement when possible.

Questions

Are wall balls station seven or eight?

They are station eight, after run eight. Sandbag lunges are station seven.

How many wall balls do Women Open complete?

The 2026/27 standard Singles requirement is 100 valid repetitions with a 4 kg ball to a 2.70 m target.

Must I do all 100 repetitions without a break?

No. Completing the required valid repetitions is the standard; an unbroken set is not required.
